EU students: your fee status

Now that Britain has left the EU, your fee status depends on your circumstances and what ongoing agreements exist between the UK and your country. Your fee status won’t change if you have already started your studies.

Continuing students 

If you have already started your studies, your fee status will not change - even if you would be given a different status under the new rules. 

Undergraduate students 

If you are an undergraduate student currently on a degree programme and have so far had your tuition fees paid by the Scottish Government, you will continue to get your fees paid for the rest of your programme.  

Postgraduate students 

If you have started your postgraduate studies, or will start before the end of 2020, you will keep your starting fee status for the whole of your programme. 

Student Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS) funding 

If you start your undergraduate or postgraduate studies in 2020, you can apply to the Student Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS) for funding and your tuition fee status will not change for the duration of your degree programme. 

This applies if the UK leaves the EU with a withdrawal agreement and in the event of a no-deal Brexit.

Each University within Scotland is responsible for making their own fee status assessments within their legislative frameworks. The regulations by which SAAS defines a 'home' student for funding, may differ form how the University of Edinburgh chooses to define a home student for tuition fee purposes.
